Overnight 7 Layer Salad

This classic picnic recipe is delicious, fresh, and, best of all, cold on a hot summer day!


Ingredients

1 head of iceberg lettuce, rinsed, dried, and chopped

1 chopped red onion

1 10-ounce package of frozen peas (frozen)

6 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and chopped

Sliced water chestnuts

Sliced tomatoes or halved cherry tomatoes

¼ cup sour cream

¾ cup mayonnaise

2 tablespoons sugar

1 bunch of sliced green onions

½ lb cooked and crumbled bacon

10 ounces of shredded Cheddar cheese


Directions

  • Layer the first six ingredients in the order above in a glass bowl, starting and ending with the lettuce.

  • Mix mayonnaise, sour cream, and sugar and spread over the top, being sure to seal the edges.

  • Sprinkle cheese, sliced green onions, and crumbled bacon over the top (the bacon can be one of the layers instead of on top).

  • Cover and cool in the refrigerator overnight.
