Maid-Rite Sandwiches

The original loose meat sandwich from Iowa.


Ingredients

2 pounds of ground beef

1 chopped onion

¾ cup ketchup

2 tablespoons brown sugar

2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard

½ teaspoon salt

16 hamburger buns

Dill pickle slices


Directions

Stir in the ground beef and onion in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until the meat is evenly browned. Drain and stir in the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and salt. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer 20 minutes longer. Serve on warmed buns topped with with mustard and pickles.
