Apple Sauce Cake

This is a tried and true recipe that left me eating over half the cake, well it was warm, in one sitting. Okay, actually I was standing at my sink, (don't tell anyone)!


This is very much like the cake Garnet Cloud used to make .

Ingredients

1 cup sugar

½ cup Crisco

cream together

Add 2 eggs, one at a time, beat well

Sift; 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, 1 teaspoon baking soda

and ½ teaspoon salt.

Add cream mixture, beat well

Mix 1½ cups applesauce and 1 teaspoon vanilla, mix well

Add 1 cup Hickory nuts, mix well


Instructions

Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 pan and bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes

Let cool 10 minutes.

Spread Caramel frosting over warm cake.
